Eye Care & Clinic With Better Professionals
Adventist International Eye Services is a charitable organization based in Oregon, USA. Its mission is to provide medical education and charitable services worldwide.
Bringing Eye Care to Those Who Need It Most
At Adventist International Eye Services, we offer a range of specialized services designed to address preventable blindness and improve eye health in underserved communities. Our services aim not only to restore vision but also to empower individuals, families, and communities.
Imagine a world where a simple surgery could restore sight, but is out of reach for millions. Cataracts, a treatable cause of blindness, plunges people in developing nations into darkness by their 30s and 40s. These individuals, often the backbone of their families and communities, become dependent, unable to work and contribute. The weight of their care falls on loved ones, creating a ripple effect of hardship. But there’s hope. Can you help us shed light on this issue and restore sight to those who need it most? Learn more about our charity eye services and how you can make a difference.
After graduating from Loma Linda University Medical School in 1970, Dr. Davidian spent two years in Guyana as a missionary physician and surgeon, then five more years in Northern California, as a general physician. He then completed ophthalmology training at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles. Working as Chief of Ophthalmology at Riverside General Hospital, he was requested to teach at Montemorelos University in Mexico. In 1981, after spending two weeks with the medical students there, he recognized their great potential for advancement to ophthalmology. A program of training was developed and that program has now trained over 200 high-quality ophthalmologists who serve all over South and Central America, the Caribbean, and even Africa. After 21 years teaching at Loma Linda University, he moved into private practice in California and Oregon. The organization he started, Adventist International Eye Services, ran the Mexico program for many years, then as it became self-sustaining, moved on to develop a program in Madagascar. Our program there has had a clinic in Antananarivo, the capitol city, for 20 years. It now also has three residents training in comprehensive ophthalmology. Under supervision by Dr. Davidian, the staff has increased to eight doctors and the patient flow to over 2,000 patients a month. It is a very dynamic and growing program that will provide the underserved country of Madagascar with essential eye care. Dr. Davidian lives in Southern Oregon with his wife, Jeanne.
Dedicated to restoring vision and transforming lives, Adventist International Eye Services provides essential eye care and training programs in underserved communities worldwide.
At Adventist International Eye Services, we are committed to transforming lives through accessible, high-quality eye care. Founded by Dr. James L. Davidian, our organization began with a vision: to bring critical ophthalmology services and training to underserved communities worldwide. With initial programs in Mexico that have since expanded across South and Central America, the Caribbean, and Africa, we focus on addressing preventable blindness and restoring sight where it is needed most.
Our mission goes beyond just medical care; we aim to empower communities. Through our established clinics and training programs, we develop sustainable, locally-led solutions that allow our impact to continue and grow. In Madagascar, where our current flagship clinic operates, we serve over 2,000 patients monthly and train residents in comprehensive ophthalmology. Our staff of skilled doctors and dedicated medical professionals work tirelessly to ensure that even the most remote communities have access to essential eye care.
At Adventist International Eye Services, we believe that restoring sight restores lives, bringing hope and opportunity to individuals, families, and entire communities. Join us as we work toward a future where no one is denied the gift of sight due to lack of access.

Our clinic in Antananarivo, Madagascar, is a cornerstone of Adventist International Eye Services’ mission to bring critical eye care to underserved regions. Established over 20 years ago, this clinic provides life-changing ophthalmology services to communities in need, addressing conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and other treatable causes of blindness that can have a profound impact on individuals’ quality of life.
Located in the capital city, the Madagascar clinic is staffed by a team of dedicated professionals, including eight doctors who serve over 2,000 patients each month. Alongside offering essential eye care, the clinic also functions as a center for medical education. Through a comprehensive residency program, we train the next generation of ophthalmologists, ensuring that our mission is sustainable and our impact long-lasting. Currently, three residents are undergoing rigorous training, gaining expertise to continue and expand this work in Madagascar and beyond.
This dynamic and growing program is more than just a clinic; it’s a beacon of hope for a country where access to specialized eye care is limited. By restoring sight, we aim to empower individuals and strengthen communities, bringing brighter futures within reach for many.
